$5,000 opportunity for NYC faculty and students.

NYC Media Lab, Verizon and Yahoo Sports present the Sports/Media/Tech Startup Bootcamp$5,000 opportunity for NYC faculty and students.

In partnership with NYC Media Lab, Verizon and Yahoo Sports will award $5,000 grants to teams of entrepreneurs, technologists, engineers and product-driven designers who seek to build new ventures. Kicking off in June of 2018, NYC Media Lab will execute an 8-week Lean Launchpad program to encourage and support customer discovery and market validation.

Four teams will be selected to participate, and will work within the following themes...


How can 5G and an Intelligent Edge network impact the fan experience at next-generation sports stadiums, arenas and other “connected” venues?

How can 5G and an Intelligent Edge network enable more compelling and meaningful e-sports experiences for gamers and fans?
 
How can mobile-first applications of emerging media technology like augmented reality, computer vision, and personalization algorithms engage the generation Z (born in the mid 1990s to early 2000’s) audience for sports?  

Application FAQ:

Who is eligible to apply? Faculty and graduate and undergraduate students currently enrolled in a NYC-based university. The minimum number of people on a team is 2.
What is NYC Media Lab looking for? Talented entrepreneurs, technologists, engineers and product-driven designers who want to advance their concept. The goal is to spawn new startups.
What is the time commitment? The project will kick off in June of 2018. The program will run for 8-weeks. The four teams will meet together as a cohort for a recurring 2 hour session weekly, and the remaining time will be spent outside the program out in the real world for customer discovery interviews. The expected time commitment for each startup team for this program is ~30 hours per week per team member.

What are the public opportunities? The project will conclude with a final demo day in August of 2018, where teams will pitch their concepts to an audience. You will also join NYC Media Lab's alumni network and will get a first look at related projects, programs and opportunities for entrepreneurs. 
What is the award? NYC Media Lab will issue a $5,000 award to selected teams.
