Announcing a new program! A+E Networks Mobile AR Prototyping Fellowship—$5,000 opportunity for NYC graduate students. Deadline: Sunday, December 10th.
1968 was the year that changed America. Civil rights leaders were assassinated; the Vietnam War escalated; students protested; a new president was elected; men orbited the moon. In 2018, NYC Media Lab will present the A+E Networks Mobile Augmented Reality Prototyping Fellowship focused on 1968.
Applicants should be capable of rapid prototyping (coding, visual design and user experience) in augmented reality environments. The focus for experimentation will be ARKit for Apple iPhones and ARCore for Android phones.
The challenge will be to use AR in a way that moves past its novelty to provide the context that historical content can sometimes lack. AR projects will be judged on their ability to convey the significance of the events of 1968. Projects produced by this Fellowship may be included alongside the content efforts of the HISTORY editorial team.
Eligibility: Currently enrolled graduate students in a NYC-based university. This fellowship is intended for individual contributors or teams of no more than three students. |

Havas Fellowship: Prototyping the Augmented Island—$5,000 opportunity for NYC graduate students. Deadline: Friday, December 1st.
Governors Island, one of the city's most historic locations, has partnered with Havas and NYC Media Lab to offer its landscape for open experimentation. Prototypes should help Governors Island visitors understand the Island's landmarks, culture and history. Participating fellows will have access to data—including archival photos, maps and visitor data—as well as off-season access to its parks.
Eligibility: Havas Fellowship is open to currently enrolled graduate students in a NYC-based university. More information: http://nycmedialab.org/havas
