Interviews:

Things i learnt: - general

- How to approach people

(with my NYU ID card, telling them I'm a student and that I'm doing a project. and if they could spare sometime to answer a few questions. With a smile! And acting friendly)

- Whom to approach

{people who are not very busy. people who are looking around or walking casually.)

- To judge if a person is friendly or would be suspicious.

- To move away quickly if the person becomes uncomfortable.

With regards to my project:

- dogs and cats are the most preferred virtual pets.

- People can get very attached to their virtual pets and might not want another if they die or run away.

- The app should be geared more towards kids and be kid friendly.

- Some elements for adults can be added as well, as they seemed very curious and wanted to try this app.

Week 4 -

Vuforia and Unity - REVEAL THE UNSEEN

SMOKING KILLS

For this week, I decided to raise awareness about Cigarettes.

I wanted to show a pack of cigarettes and then imply that smoking is dangerous and will lead to death along the line.

So, for this purpose, I put skulls on and around the cigarette packet in AR.

Week 3 - Intervention and GPS with Layar

Idea:

President Trump spreads negativity about all Muslims and thinks they are terrorists.

I wanted to pin point this wrong thought of his.

So I selected the Trump Tower as my target.

I decided to put Muslim symbols, Muslim families and a sign which said "Muslims not allowed" inside, outside and around the tower.

Objects created:

I created 3 objects to be placed:

- a Muslim family
- A sign which says "No Muslims allowed"
- A Pakistani symbol

AR experience:

- I successfully placed The Muslim symbol several places outside and inside the Trump Tower.

- But because I kept scouting the place with my phone for long hours, the security guards there became suspicious.

- One even questioned me and after sometime they started to move towards me.

- So I got scared and ran away. And was afraid to go the next day to load the other two models.

Week 2 - Book summary AR Experience:

- My idea for this week is to develop an AR experience which would give a short summary of a book novel to the user.

- The user can go to a book store, use this AR app, open to the first page of a novel, and then they would get a short 1-2 minute summary of that novel.

- This summary will help the user to decide if they want to buy and read the novel or not at all.

I was not able to do complex work as this is the first time that I'm using all the below mentioned softwares. Will try my best to do more complex work in the future.

Steps done for this experience:

Trigger images used:

Photoshop:

- Opened the book cover in Photoshop

- Created three seprate layers

- Layer 1 had the background alone, layer 2 had Elon Musk, Layer 3 had the heading - Elon Musk

- Saved the file

Adobe After Effects:

- Opened the Photoshop file

- Added effects and animation ( Scale and position and opacity)

- Saved it

Final Cut Pro

- Opened the video which I wanted to use for Book Summary

- Trimmed it and selected my favourite portions

- Saved it making sure it's under 100 MB

Aurasma

- Uploaded trigger image 1 and it's corresponding AfterEffects animation

- Uploaded trigger image 2 and it's corresponding book summary video

- Created 2 Auras.

Week 1 - Memory Assignment:

For my memory assignment, I chose a memory of me doing parasailing in Thailand.

It was the first time that I experienced it and was scared initially. But it ended up being a surreal experience that I’ll cherish for life.

I was not only able to see the vast ocean beneath me, but also the tiny people and trees on the shore.

Hopefully I captured the same in Maya too.
