Post Mid Term Final Project Progress

November 17 2017
This week was more of a getting all the pieces to work. Integration is not perfected.

Tasks Accomplished:
1. Fish Behaves more natural
2. Color Pop Out issues are fixed
3. Oil Leak is added to the scene
4. A timer is integrated to the canvas
5. Our Force Field Radar - Particle system - applied to the robot fish

Color Pop Out:
In the previous release everything we saw was through a color filter. In the current release the fished and all augmented objects are not affected by the filter.

Oil Leak:
A transparent cube with a smokey overlay moves towards the origin

Timer:
Counts down at the top left of the screen

Force Field:
A particle system is created with the rings

All The Pieces Together Look like this !!

My Next Steps :
1. Make the ripples look better
2. Add sound
3. Establish interaction between the fish and the oil leak

A part of my MVP

Defining the safe region

Problems I am resolving right now

October 26 2017

From all the random ideas presented last week; we chose one to start building.

"Driving the fish to safety"

This week I worked on the Flocking Framework for the fishes !!

I used The ZomBunny Shooter Game tutorial and tweaked the code. Before moving into AR, I wanted to test the framework on a simple game.

Objective: As the player walks close to the fish, the fish needs to follow the player.

Next Video: If the player walks very fast, the fish stops following :D

Navigation: I learnt to work with NavMeshAgents. It was really easy !!

As the player gets into the sphere trigger collider the zombunny/fish will follow the player

nav.enable = false; was not the best choise

!! AR TIME !!

Flocking Behavior in AR. The balls will be replaced with fishes

Upon this I will be adding :
1. The Fish with animation replacing the  balls/bunnies
2. Music
3. Water
4. Some oil spill
5. Mark the safe region
6. Some canvas work

Midterm Plan - Sketches

Homework 5

"ARKit + Unity"

This week was a lot of learning on how to think.

I had a lot of ideas and even tried out a few - Lots of Failures on the way

Interesting Find:

ARKit works only when the user stand on the same level.
Looking at the road from a building windows (no glass) doesn't work.

Unreal took forever to compile shaders.

I built a fire pit on top of a public trash can :D

Thanks to my roommate E

What All Failed:

1. A replication of Jeneva Jet near in front of Manhattan

2. Pokemon won't Import on Unity with Colours from Maya

3. Boxing Ring where people can act like fighting inside - cannot find free assets in Unity Store

4. Goal Post in park where people play football - cannot find free assets in Unity Store

Homework 4

"Vuforia + Unity"

I am really Happy with what I built for this home work.

I made a game. Lot to improve and learn. Gotta take up an Unity Course soon.

I had a lot of Beta Testing done in MakerSpace :D It was fun !!

To My Surprise none of players were bothered about the fact which was bothering me a lot - the car was only panning the place and not turning at all.

Critical Learnings:

Though each target image receives good start rating in vuforia target page, we need to make sure all the targets we use are distinctly not closely identical in the collection.

I learnt to use both AR camera and Scene camera in parallel.

Building on iPhone had few issues - learnt to get it to work.

Understood the importance of scaling AR content to targets dimension range.

To Learn:

Identify multiple targets simultaneously. (Then I can convert the entire game as an AR interaction)

Turn the car as its supposed to -> but for this game I think this is the best configuration.

Scoring the player based on how closely he is able to drive on the road.

My Initial Plan:

Have 5 AR targets, one for game and four for control with Augmend contents popping out of each target.

Player places his hand on top of target hiding it from the AR Camera ; triggering corresponding car motion.

Homework 3

"AR on top of Printed Media"

My Stack : Photoshop --> After Effect --> Aurasma

My Target :

My Plan:

1. Make the Adidas flower move up
2. Drop tennis balls from the flower
3. Hit them with a tennis racket that magically flows in

This is my Animation Video with Audio

Demo Video

Key Inference/Learning:

1. Importance of lighting
2. I was amazed at how drastically the file size dropped after using "HandBrake"
3. Audio is key in making the experience complete
4. Flat single plane targets work best in Aurasma

Looking forward to play with everyone's Animation in class !!

Homework 2

"recreate a MEMORY"

When: During my most recent visit to India - summer 2017

Our Drive to Dudsagar Waterfalls, GOA, India

The time was the heart of Monsoon Season. The jeep track was closed due to heavy rain as the river was overflowing the track in 3 junctions. With the help of locals - we took a very risky track to the falls by driving motor bikes along the railway track for 45 mins and then through the forest crossing the closed jeep track a couple of times followed by an hour trek. One of the most adventurous trips ever.

This is the only video that looks safe. I can always show you the other videos in class.

Tech Tools:
1. 3D warehouse - downloaded the best colada file I could find.
2. Maya to trim it up. Merge the mesh. Export to Unreal Engine.
3. Unreal Engine - Import, Position, Orientation, Lighting.

Self Realization - Skills to improve on:
1. Better camera positioning to make the shot amazing
2. Creating rain in Unreal Engine
3. Creating Terrain with ups and downs

Those are all the screenshots. Here is also a look of what I call my studio/scene

Homework 1

I tried apps from few different categories - Furnitures, Tattoos, Geo-Location - Pokemon go, Dinosaurs.

My Inference:
1. Content Quality plays an very important role in making the experience memorable and fun.
2. Geo Location based AR apps makes me more aware of my surroundings. I would have never noticed things, had it not been a poke-stop.

I loved placing the pokemons on my friends. It was fun.

I am too scared to get a Tattoo. This app inkHunter is cool. I got a winterfell sigil tattoo :) The best part was that the market was overlaid by my skin texture.

Got a magic microwave oven and a lamp over my desk. App - Amikasa

I also managed to unleash a few Dinosaurs! in Court Street
